World of Warcraft- 15 million people playing world wide can't all be wrong. For those living under a rock World of Warcraft aka WoW is the largest and most sucessful Massivlely Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) in the world today. It has been going for 6 years includes 3 expansions and show no signs of slowing seeing as how the most recent expansion sold over 4.7 million copies.
Personally I love this game because it is the never ending. The company that makes the Game Blizzard are masters of giving us occasional rewards that motivate people to play for hours and hours on end. It's great if you even need to kill a little time you can hop in and do a few quests any time you want. At the same time you could just as easily take up days worth of time working with other players to take down harder bosses. It's difficult to put into words what makes this game good besides it is completely engrossing and with other people.
Call of Duty Series- Anyone who is a fan of First Person Shooters knows this franchise. The games mostly focus on World War II but more recently are geared towards modern wars in the middle east. The thing that keeps these games viable after many months of playing is the online muiltiplayer. The newest installment Call of Duty Black Ops is widely regarded as the best the shooter on the market. I have spent many the hour working online with other people to take down the other team. This game vastly improved on it's predecessors by added a great balence to the game. In previous games certain wepons and tactis were much better than others often making it unfair. In Black Ops the weapons are all on even ground and it is more about the players ability to work as team to win. While many whine about the grenade launcher that could take out entire teams I'm just glad a casual player I now stand a chance and can have as much fun as anyone else.
Ratchet and Clank Series- This series holds a great sense of nostalgia for me, it was one of the first games I ever played on the Playstation 2 and it remains one of my favorites. It follows the character Ratchet who is a furry alien called a lombax and his robotic sidekick Clank as they save the universe from various baddies. The thing I love about this game are the relationships of the characters, they have some of the funniest and most well written banter i've ever seen in a game. They are always poking fun of each other, but there is a deep sense of friendship between them. At the same time this game probably has some of the greatest platforming i've ever seen. It's simple but at the same time complex because there are often many ways to approach a situation. You could simply blow down the down of an enemy stronghold or you could sneak your way in and do things covertly it's completely up to you.
Team Fortress 2- This game is a little less mainstream. It's an online first person shooter with a twist. There are several playable character types for you to choose from, ranging from light and fast "Scout" types to a "Heavy" who is a walking juggernaut and can take several dozen bullets without blinking. There is a character for everyone and each has their own place on the battlefield and no one is more powerful than the other.
